A real-life family like the movie "The Blind Side" starring Sandra Bullock -- Auburndale, Florida -- Cindy Hummel, left, and husband George Hummel, right, with Chubb Small. STORY--Chubb Small's life is full of chapters. As a child, he was abandoned by his mother. As a youth, he attended more than a dozen elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools and lived in at least four cities. As a running back at Marshall University in West Virginia, he rushed for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a student, he graduated with his master's degree after only five years of college. And, as a human being, some might consider him a miracle. To tell the entire story would be like watching the hit movie "The Blind Side" and changing only the names and university colors. When Small was only 11 years old, his mother left for the first time. Two years later, she placed a letter on his bed and disappeared during the night. At the tender age of 13, Small woke to an empty house. His mother bounced in and out of his life, leaving Small to fend for himself, eating Hot Pockets and staying in dark apartments where the power had been cut off. He showered at friends' homes and washed clothes at his school. His grades suffered, he was withdrawn and he had three different names -- nothing on his Social Security card, birth certificate or driver's license matched. As he started to enter his high school years, two coaches at Auburndale High School in Florida began talking to Small about playing football. "I wanted to, but I didn't know how it would work out because I didn't know where I was going to be next," he said. Small was "adopted" by church leaders and the community and Cindy and George Hummel, shown here with Chubb and Chubb's college degree from Marshall University in West Virginia, where he eventually attended and excelled.
