Two British tourists were killed in Sarasota, Florida, in April 2011, sparking memories of a string of 1992 and 1993 murders that lead to canceled Florida vacations and heightened security and law enforcement at rest stops statewide, as well as a 20% drop in tourism dollars. By the fall of 1993, nine foreign visitors had been murdered and many indicted for their deaths.
